Crucifixion

I was watching the history channel the other day about scientist and doctors trying to decide what part of the crucifixion killed Jesus and a history of crucifixion. It was amazing. I had no idea that it (crucifixion) went back to Alexander the Great (before Jesus). Unbelievable man’s inhumanity to man.

Anyway, at the very end the commentator asked why Christians after what was done to Jesus would use the cross for their symbol but still okay torture and crucifixion .

Torture of any kind should remind us of what Jesus went through. The torture pictures at Gitmo/Abu Gra. of that man with the hood over his head standing on a box and tied up like Jesus should have shaken us and demanded trials and the impeachment of Bush and gang.

Tying a man’s hands above his head is extreme torture (not to mention all the other things done like beatings that left skin shredded, nailing ankles to the cross, etc.). Due to the position on the cross or T frame, they lose oxygen and can’t breathe. The pain is unbearable.

Very eye opening historical view. The crucifixion of men and women was the ultimate torture and probably one of the worst ways to die. Some lasted for days. Horrible.

Scientist think that Jesus died from the blow he received falling with the cross. They think it damaged his heart and he died of heart failure/aneurysm. Any of the beatings, no food, no water, etc. would have made it worse and of course the inability to breathe to full capacity.

It is recorded that when the soldier pierced Jesus to see if he was dead that blood and a water fluid shot out which would be the result of the heart aneurysm.

They pointed out a few things that we believe that were not true. For example, the cross he carried would have been only the top support beam as back then they had the other one already inserted in the ground and they would just place the top beam with Jesus on it. There is no way a man in that condition could have carried a whole cross. In all likelihood it was really a T shape. Also, that crucifixion was so common back then that there was not a large crowd at the site where he died. It happened so much that it was common place and sadly the Romans looked at Jesus as another crazy Jew.

Anyway, it was an eye opener. Alexander the Great (before Jesus) would kill thousands of people with crucifixion and line them up along the shores to die. It was the extreme message of “Don’t mess with us”….”We rule you”.

Of course Hitler used it too. They would not support the legs or feet and that way the men would die faster from lack of oxygen to the lungs.

After all these centuries, we still torture. We learned nothing from Jesus dying…nothing.

In Iraq/I remember reading about a taxi driver that our soldiers picked up with “alleged” terrorists. He died from being hung in his cell. The soldiers even admitted they knew he was innocent. They have to live with that even though they are all following orders.

The fact that this government tried to blame the solders when it first came out shows how corrupt they are. We now know that Bush and gang sanction torture.

If you ever get the chance to watch this on the History Channel, you should.

To claim Christianity and yet follow a leader that tortures people the way Jesus was tortured is not only wrong but crazy.
