CAUTIONED WITH LOVE

I was angry and hurt
Shaking to my feet
Justice is just a word
Understanding is not a part of the program
But you
With the wisdom of an old man
Gentle caring of a mother
Say to me
"People live dangerous lives
They don't care
Then they get hurt
And say life is not fair"
You're a valuable person
As are all people
One person is no greater then another
No person is any less then any other
The golden rule
Do unto others
As you would have them do unto you
It means giving each other the respect due
As creations of God
It means believing you're no greater
then anyone else
It means believing nobody is any better
then yourself
It means believing that, and doing just that
Morale problems are caused by people on ego trips
As you get to the top
Will you put a stop to this?

I’m getting old and my memory is not so good. I can’t remember for sure when or why I wrote this, but I think it was around the late 80s just after I had woke up and opened up my mind. Nobody spoke these words to me. You might say this is just me talking to myself. For most of my life I believed that everybody was better than me until I woke up that was and then I discovered just how great a creation I am, equal to everyone else and that pretty much is the theme of this poem. You’re not much good when you think everyone is better than you because you will not stand up for what is right when you know something is wrong. That pretty much is the theme of this poem.
