Poem of The Day – My Ten Cents (Inflation)

MY TEN CENTS (Inflation)

They practice religion
Not in a basement where you can't see
But in the open
Where they claim their god be
For you and me to see
They believe things you know can't be
And teach things you think shouldn't be
HOW DARE THEY
Fretting on about a perceived threat
You might be forced to participate
Call the wall of church and state
This is just wrong without debate
Public prayer should be against the law
Whether or not most may wish to participate
But I ask
Can we not also make it a law
That flowers not bloom in our presence
and birds not sing in our ear

I wrote this in 2001 after listening to an Atheist tell me that Chaplains in the Navy were illegal after I told the story about how we were running out of fuel in the North Atlantic. Surrounded by storms fighting 24 foot swells, our superstructure was cracked and most of us were afraid of dieing. A Chaplin aboard would say a prayer over the 1mc at taps and everyone, including the atheist would bow down on their knee.
