Poem of The Day – My Ten Cents (Inflation)

Religion No Comments

MY TEN CENTS (Inflation)

They practice religion
Not in a basement where you can't see
But in the open
Where they claim their god be
For you and me to see
They believe things you know can't be
And teach things you think shouldn't be
HOW DARE THEY
Fretting on about a perceived threat
You might be forced to participate
Call the wall of church and state
This is just wrong without debate
Public prayer should be against the law
Whether or not most may wish to participate
But I ask
Can we not also make it a law
That flowers not bloom in our presence
and birds not sing in our ear

I wrote this in 2001 after listening to an Atheist tell me that Chaplains in the Navy were illegal after I told the story about how we were running out of fuel in the North Atlantic. Surrounded by storms fighting 24 foot swells, our superstructure was cracked and most of us were afraid of dieing. A Chaplin aboard would say a prayer over the 1mc at taps and everyone, including the atheist would bow down on their knee.

The administration is rushing to enact a host of last-minute regulations that will screw America for years to come

With president-elect Barack Obama already taking command of the financial crisis, it’s tempting to think that regime change in America is a done deal. But if George Bush has his way, the country will?be ruled by his slash-and-burn ideology for a long time to come.

In its final days, the administration is rushing to implement a sweeping array of “midnight regulations” ? de facto laws issued by the executive branch ? designed to lock in Bush’s legacy. Under the last- minute rules, which can be extremely difficult to overturn, loaded firearms would be allowed in national parks, uranium mining would be permitted near the Grand Canyon and many injured consumers would no longer be able to sue negligent manufacturers in state courts. Other rules would gut the Endangered Species Act, open millions of acres of wild lands to mining, restrict access to birth control and put local cops to work spying for the federal government.

“It’s what we’ve seen for Bush’s whole tenure, only accelerated,” says Gary Bass, executive director of the nonpartisan group OMB Watch. “They’re using regulation to cement their deregulatory mind-set, which puts corporate interests above public interests.”

While every modern president has implemented last-minute regulations, Bush is rolling them out at a record pace ? nearly twice as many as Clinton, and five times more than Reagan. “The administration is handing out final favors to its friends,” says V?ronique de Rugy, a scholar at George Mason University who has tracked six decades of midnight regulations. “They couldn’t do it earlier ? there would have been too many political repercussions. But with the Republicans having lost seats in Congress and the presidency changing parties, Bush has nothing left to lose.”

The most jaw-dropping of Bush’s rule changes is his effort to eviscerate the Endangered Species Act. Under a rule submitted in November, federal agencies would no longer be required to have government scientists assess the impact on imperiled species before giving the go-ahead to logging, mining, drilling, highway building or other development. The rule would also prohibit federal agencies from taking climate change into account in weighing the impact of projects that increase greenhouse emissions ? effectively dooming polar bears to death-by-global-warming. According to Carl Pope, executive director of the Sierra Club, “They’ve taken the single biggest threat to wildlife and said, ‘We’re going to pretend it doesn’t exist, for regulatory purposes.’”

Bush is also implementing other environmental rules that will cater to the interests of many of his biggest benefactors:

Unemployment Worse In 15 Years

News No Comments

From Real News

Unemployed and hungry in the US

Jobless numbers highest in 15 years, food stamp users hit record 31.6 million or 1 in 10 Americans

More than half a million jobs were lost in the US in November, the largest loss in a single month since 1974. Though initially the announcement had a negative effect on the markets, by the end of the day Wall Street again forgot about the little guy, the Dow closed up 260 points. The more than 1.2 million jobs lost over the past 3 months, and the 11th straight month of job losses, bring the unemployment rate to 6.7 per cent, the highest in 15 years. Also this week the Department of Agriculture released figures that show food stamp beneficiaries increased by 17 percent in the past year. That?s more than 31.6 million or 1 out of every 10 people in the US receiving food stamps or taking part in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. TRNN spoke to Dedrick Muhammad of the Institute for Policy Studies. Muhammad says that 6.7 percent is not the true unemployment number because it does not include the underemployed and those who have stopped looking for work. Muhammad also says that the bailout is a “trickle down” bailout, that by giving money to the wealthiest institutions somehow this is supposed to help the middle class and working class.

Senate to Middle Class: Drop Dead

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Friends,

1. They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers start building only cars and mass transit that reduce our dependency on oil.

2. They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers build cars that reduce global warming.

3. They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers withdraw their many lawsuits against state governments in their attempts to not comply with our environmental laws.

4. They could have given the loan on the condition that the management team which drove these once-great manufacturers into the ground resign and be replaced with a team who understands the transportation needs of the 21st century.

Yes, they could have given the loan for any of these reasons because, in the end, to lose our manufacturing infrastructure and throw 3 million people out of work would be a catastrophe.

But instead, the Senate said, we’ll give you the loan only if the factory workers take a $20 an hour cut in wages, pension and health care. That’s right. After giving BILLIONS to Wall Street hucksters and criminal investment bankers — billions with no strings attached and, as we have since learned, no oversight whatsoever — the Senate decided it is more important to break a union, more important to throw middle class wage earners into the ranks of the working poor than to prevent the total collapse of industrial America.

We have a little more than a month to go of this madness.

As I sit here in Michigan today, tens of thousands of hard working, honest, decent Americans do not believe they can make it to January 20th. The malaise here is astounding. Why must they suffer because of the mistakes of every CEO from Roger Smith to Rick Wagoner? Make management and the boards of directors and the shareholders pay for this.

Of course that is heresy to the 31 Republicans who decided to blame the poor, miserable autoworkers for this mess. And our wonderful media complied with their spin on the morning news shows: “UAW Refuses to Give Concessions Killing Auto Bailout Bill.” In fact the UAW has given concession after concession, reduced their benefits, agreed to get rid of the Jobs Bank and agreed to make it harder for their retirees to live from week to week. Yes! That’s what we need to do! It’s the Jobs Bank and the old people who have led the nation to economic ruin!

But even doing all that wasn’t enough to satisfy the bastard Republicans. These Senate vampires wanted blood. Blue collar blood. You see, they weren’t opposed to the bailout because they believed in the free market or capitalism. No, they were opposed to the bailout because they’re opposed to workers making a decent wage. In their rage, they were driven to destroy the backbone of this country, not because the UAW hadn’t given back enough, but because the UAW hadn’t given up.

It appears that the sitting President has been looking for a way to end his reign by one magnanimous act, just like a warlord on his feast day. He will put his finger in the dyke, and the fragile mess of an auto industry will eke through the next few months.

That will give the Senate enough time to demand that the bankers and investment sharks who’ve already swiped nearly half of the $700 billion gift a chance to make the offer of cutting their pay.

Fat chance.

Yours,
Michael Moore

Why Do People Think They Have A Right To Change You?

Just Me, Religion, Wisdom No Comments

Why do other people believe they have a right to change you??? Do they think they are God or something???

I’ve seen this before, you like somebody “BUT” they’re just not the way you like, but if you can change them then you can love them. “Good luck with that.”

Some people don’t believe in Jesus but he taught some pretty smart things and you know if everyone followed these things, we would live in a wonderful world. One of the things he taught was to love your enemy and to do that, you just have to let them be your enemy. You can’t expect them to change if you like them. You will only be disappointed, finding it impossible to love them.

This is why love has no rules and unfortunately, we as a people put up our fences and barbwire to protect us from it, thinking if we are safe we will be happy. But we’re not are we? Always cautious.

Seeds We Sow

In our younger years we sow seeds
We think nothing of it
Should?fruit appear we are astonished
If we get caught in a thorny bush we complain that life is unfair

What is that they say about you when you aren’t here
The birds do tell
Be careful what you say of others when they aren’t there

Be careful not to sow seeds of thorny bushes
Don’t be so surprised when you bear fruit

I had this chief once who was very smart but I didn’t like him and he did so many things for me and he would always have good advice, but I just didn’t like him and I just didn’t know why.? His name was Chief Perry and as my career went on in the Navy I sure missed him as everyone seemed to want to stab you in the back stealing your thunder for their own self satisfaction and walk on you to get ahead.? Nobody would take care of you, everybody would use you, except Chief Perry who I missed so badly the only one who would take his time to help you and I didn’t like him.

Well you know, what comes around goes around and now it looks like there is someone doing the same thing to me, braking my heart and all I want to do is help.? I just have to remember, I did this to somebody else.

Billionaire Sergel A. Plastinin Owes U.S. Workers Millions

Russian Venture Capitalist Costs Workers Jobs and Income During Economic Meltdown

Russian billionaire Sergei A. Plastinin has served himself a self-styled economic bailout by leaving the US with unpaid bills owed to construction firms and workers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut? and Pennsylvania, says Robert Carlton of TRC, Inc. in Harmony, Pennsylvania.

Kira Plastinina owes $1,845,000 to US construction firms and construction workers for five high-end fashion stores in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Carlton notes that such a bailout has left workers holding an empty bag at worst time of the year and during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Rather than pay his bills for construction work completed at his stores, Russian business billionaire Sergei Plastinin has spent millions courting US media stars, such as Paris Hilton, who appeared — at a cost of $2 million — at the fashion show of his designing daughter, the sixteen-year-old socialite, Kira Plastinina.

Kira Plastinina (does her name mean ‘child of plastic?’) continues to garner positive press for the fashion attire displayed in stores built on the backs of unpaid workers in the US, yet her business mogul father still refuses to pay his bills.

Hundreds of construction workers stand to lose money and jobs just before Christmas in an already disastrous economic climate.
