For me, forgiving someone has always been about lifting the weight from my own shoulders, regardless of whether or not the person asked for it or deserves it. Forgiveness is a FREEING thing for the person who chooses to give it. I don't know what your father did, but I do know that my heavenly father forgave me for sins I never even thought I would commit. He forgave me even when I wouldn't have anything at all to do with him. So I try to do what he wants, and grant forgiveness to those who have wronged me. Again, it's not about them. It's about the freedom I feel once I have forgiven. Just some thoughts I wanted to share after I read your post. Sorry about your dad.
